Summertime is bringing us unusually hot weather here in the Pacific Northwest. Even here in sun-soaked Chelan, we aren’t used to 100+ degree temperatures in late June.
Time to cool off with refreshing glasses of iced water, alternated with delicious white wines from local Lake Chelan Wine Valley wineries… Don’t you think?
One of my favorite wineries in the valley is Amos Rome Vineyards. You’ll love their red wines too, but today I wanted to showcase their newly released white wines.
“Bighorn White” is a new white wine blend from Lookout Vineyard here in the Lake Chelan AVA. It’s a blend of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Riesling.
“Bighorn White” is aged in 80% stainless steel, but with 20% of its time spent in neutral oak.
I’m not much of a Chardonnay fan, but I trust the winemaker and I’m sure the Riesling blended in will make this tastier for me. I’m up for giving it a try! Into my glass it goes, later on this afternoon.
For those of you who are Chardonnay fans, check out Amos Rome Vineyards’ Estate Chardonnay from 2019. It will pair so nicely with all the grilled salmon you folks are grilling up on your BBQs around here!
I have yet to meet anyone who has tasted Amos Rome Vineyards’ Estate Riesling and not absolutely raved about it! This was the most-mentioned white wine last summer, the talk of the town! At least from my perspective.
I’m loading up on a few bottles to get me through the summer. Note that Amos Rome Vineyards makes limited quantities of their wine, and sell out of their white wines long before summer is over. (In fact, their Rosé wine is already sold out, sigh). They only made 156 cases of this Riesling, so buy several bottles while you still have the opportunity!
To learn more about Amos Rome Vineyards, visit their website, Facebook and Instagram. Be sure to book advance reservations to visit their tasting room as Lake Chelan and its wineries are a popular spot for vacation-starved wine drinkers this summer!
